I think this picture is very interesting since it makes me think of the mask that all the citizens of Oceania wear, or at least all the party members. Also the fact that the silver is smothering their moth and closing the eyes indicates the fact that the part members are suppressed and have to act blind. The smothered mouth visualizes the fact that no one is able to speak and if they do, they have to condense their word choice in such a way that it can escape form the mask. In my mind this is the transition from ''Oldspeak'' to ''Newspeak''.
